TIMELINE
The Association of Seafood Producers (ASP) was founded in November 2003 as the
province’s leading voice for seafood processors and legislated industry representative
for all collective bargaining.
For over 20 years, we’ve worked hard to represent the interests of our Member-
Producers on matters pertaining to:

The Association of Seafood Producers (ASP) is officially incorporated, uniting processors across Newfoundland and Labrador under a shared mission of industry leadership, sustainability, and advocacy.
ASP leads Canada’s first successful Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification – the Northern prawn trawl fishery – setting a national precedent for sustainable seafood practices.APRIL 2013: NL Snow crab certified by MSC
ASP supports the MSC certification of the Canadian northern and striped shrimp fisheries, reinforcing the sector’s commitment to science-based sustainability across multiple species.
The Snow Crab fishery earns its first recertification under the MSC program, demonstrating continuous improvement and adherence to global sustainability standards.
The Greenland halibut (turbot) fishery achieves MSC certification, marking another milestone in ASP’s efforts to promote responsible harvesting and maintain healthy fish stocks for future generations.
ASP secures a second MSC recertification for Snow Crab, reaffirming the sector’s long-term dedication to environmental responsibility and global best practices.
