ADVOCACY
& POLICY
Dedicated to the prudent and
successful management of our local fisheries
GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
Strong government relationships are essential to sustaining a seafood processing industry that supports thousands of jobs across Newfoundland and Labrador. As the certified bargaining agent for processors under Newfoundland and Labrador’s Fisheries Industry Collective Bargaining Act (FICBA) and regulations, we work closely with policymakers to ensure decisions are informed by the realities on the ground — and the voices of the people who live and work in our communities.
When regulations reflect both environmental and economic sustainability, everyone benefits: harvesters, processors, and the communities they support. We advocate for fair, balanced policy that helps protect our heritage and secure a stable future for generations to come.
PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
More Than ‘Just Business’
This public awareness campaign was designed to highlight the critical role seafood processing plays in our economy, our communities, and our culture. Our goal is to help the public — and policymakers — understand what’s truly at stake: over 6,000 jobs, 70 rural communities, and a way of life built on responsibility and pride.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE & FISHERIES MANAGEMENT
From food safety and environmental protection to licensing and labour practices, our global reputation for quality relies on a well-regulated and informed industry.
As proud stewards of some of the world’s most highly prized seafood products, our members are committed to meeting – often exceeding – the highest regulatory standards for some of the most discerning markets on the plant.
Our role in bringing the processor perspective to the table helps ensure that license allocation, resource access, and stock management decisions account for the entire seafood value chain. We support evidence-based fisheries management that reflects the latest science, industry realities, and long-term planning.
The benefits of a well managed fishery ripple outward – sustaining jobs, supporting families, and keeping our coastal communities vibrant. By collaborating with regulatory bodies, we’re able to streamline compliance, reduce red tape, and ensure our members can thrive while upholding the integrity of the industry.
